Desolate

Nearly everyday I pick up litter left by other people – mainly plastic waste, if we all did this it could have a significant impact on the fight to save our environment. I am appalled when I hear of another dead whale washed up full of plastic bags, seeing footage of massive islands of floating waste polluting our seas or the sheer laziness of revelers after a concert discarding litter without any thought as to the damage it may cause. It is images such as this that are a disgrace.

Do these folk understand just how fragile our environment is? I fear soon it will be too toxic to support Human life – these are my thoughts….

Distant skylines bereft of trees,

Flowers dying for want of bees,

Toxic oceans with plastic shores,

Oil and water the cause of wars.

And when the glaciers have melted,

The rivers run dry,

The last drop of water,

Will be from the eye.

I said to the kids,

“What shall we do?”

So we went online

To the virtual zoo.

No more wildebeest running free,

No elephants either because of ivory.

No birds in paradise – everything gone,

No rainforests left, not even one.

And when the glaciers have melted,

The rivers run dry,

The last drop of water

Will be from the eye.

Whales dying from plastic bags,

The World ruled by greedy hags,

Raping the Planet as a Human race

When all we are is a Human disgrace.

Living longer by taking nasty meds,

When all we are doing is shitting our beds.

And when the glaciers have melted,

The rivers run dry,

The last drop of water

Will be from the eye.
